PaintingProGuide is an independent guide to painting supplies, tools and techniques — for people choosing their first acrylic set as much as for those restocking a working studio.
Who runs this site
PaintingProGuide is owned and edited by Md Jomiruddin Sobuj. It is a one-person publication, not a magazine with a newsroom: every article here is researched, written or edited by him, and he is accountable for what it says. You can reach him directly at contact@paintingproguide.com.
How we decide what to recommend
We want to be straight with you about this, because a lot of sites are not.
We do not have a testing studio. We do not paint with every set we write about, and we will not pretend otherwise. What we do instead is the research most people do not have time for:
- Start from the specifications. Pigment load, binder, lightfastness ratings, bristle material, gsm and surface texture for paper, weight and stability for easels — the numbers manufacturers publish and that actually predict how something behaves.
- Read the long tail of user feedback. Not the star rating, but the three-star reviews and the complaints that repeat: the brush that sheds after a week, the paint that dries chalky, the easel that will not hold a large canvas steady.
- Compare like with like. A student-grade set is judged against other student-grade sets, not against professional paint it was never meant to match.
- Say who a product is wrong for. Most guides only tell you what to buy. Knowing when to skip something is usually more useful.
Where an article draws on direct experience with a product, it says so in that article. Where it does not, it does not claim to.
How this site makes money
Through affiliate links, almost entirely to Amazon. PaintingProGuide is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, and as an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. If you follow a link from here and buy something, we receive a small commission at no extra cost to you — the price is identical whether you use our link or go to Amazon directly.
We do not accept payment for placement, and no brand has approval over what appears here. Our full disclosure page sets this out in detail.
What you will find here
- Buying guides — acrylics, oils, watercolours, brushes, canvas, easels, palettes and digital drawing tools, organised by what you are actually trying to do.
- Technique articles — step-by-step guides to landscape painting, colour mixing, blending, wall art, glass and wood surfaces, and painting with children.
- Problem solving — how to get acrylic out of clothes, why your paint dries chalky, how to clean and revive brushes, what to do when a wash blooms.
Where we can be wrong
Products change, formulations get reworked, and a set that was excellent value in 2024 may not be in 2027. Prices and availability on Amazon change constantly and we do not quote them here for that reason. If you find something on this site that is out of date or simply wrong, please tell us — corrections are welcome and we would rather fix an article than defend it.
